There have been rumours on twitter about the untimely death of the independent film director Hans Bruntt. He was the director of five of the seven films produced by foking films, and in 2011 he was supposed to direct his sixth and final movie – “Odin’s Løg” – to complete the viking hexalogy. In this interview, “The Raven” magazine confront the Foking Films-insider Rene Varmdal.
A huge multi-figure budget
“Odin’s Balls” is the most expensive film ever produced by Foking Films. A budget of more than 50 Euros (on the opening scene alone) has been mentioned in an earlier interview. But after the festival there has only been silence. Why is that?
We don’t care about money, Rene explains. We only care about total viking power. Everyone on the set becomes part of this mind state: Fuck the money, all hail the vikings of old! We are travelling through the ages, back to the time of the vikings. It is a spiritual journey and a metal one. Do you know what I mean? We like metal when it’s heavy. That’s why we are always filming at the rock festival in Roskilde!
I understand you are evading my question about money. Is it true that Foking Films paid the lead actress good money for a scene including partial frontal nudity?
Rene closes his eyes and remains silent. Then the slowly nods.
The director is in Valhalla
It was rumoured that the director Hans Bruntt disappeared on the final day of filming. You have promised me to elaborate on these rumours?
True grit and strong liquor are some of the ingredients that have been catalysts in producing some of the most groundbreaking documentaries and horror soaps produced by our independent film company. Hans Bruntt will be dearly missed. When I think about it… he was Foking Films! But his viking spirit will live on.
Have you any idea if Foking Films will be back at the Roskilde Festival in 2012?
No. But I will pray for them! I pray for Thor, Loke and Mjølner. And Hans… He’s in Valhalla, drinking his mead.
Rene Varmdal was clearly upset by this final question and refused to answer any more questions.
